Early Childhood - Middle Childhood

Teacher calling on a student within a group of students

The Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood-Middle Childhood program will allow you to pursue a career teaching children from birth to the age of eleven. This program will prepare you to teach infants, toddler and preschool programs, and kindergarten and elementary school grades. Your coursework will also prepare you for a career as a director for a children's center, Head Start program, and family education programs. A minor in inclusive education is available for those pursuing the Early Childhood-Middle Childhood program. The inclusive education minor will allow you to be licensed to address children with disabilities in the general education classroom.

You will engage in three field experiences where you can apply your knowledge and skills to support student learning in child care centers and schools. Your field experience will include:

  • A Pre-K/Kindergarten practicum that explores developmentally appropriate practice.
  • An elementary literacy program that prepares future reading teachers.
  • A two-week intensive interdisciplinary practicum that will prepare you for student teaching.
