We Need You! Annual Hardware Audit Scheduled for October
ITS will begin its annual hardware asset audit on Monday, Oct. 2 using the successful self-report approach implemented in 2016. Each staff and faculty member will be asked to submit the asset tag number for any computer (workstation, desktop, laptop, or tablet) that is assigned to you or that you are responsible for managing (e.g. check-out laptops). This inventory audit does not include classroom or lab machines.
How do I find the asset tag?
The asset tag is an orange sticker with “Property of UW-Platteville” at the top. It contains a barcode and a 6-digit number in small black text.
Instructions for finding your computer name and its asset tag are posted in the ITS Knowledge Base. This document includes a full list of other campus devices that are asset-tagged and those that are not.
REMINDER: Please include the asset tag number of your device whenever you contact the ITS Help Desk for service. With this one small piece of information, many questions about the computer can be answered, such as its location, owner, and model as well as the software it contains and its maintenance history. Learning and supplying your computer’s asset tag number can be key to expedited technical support.
For more information on the hardware asset audit, watch for an email in the coming days.
