IT things to know for Fall 2017

As you return to campus, we offer a heads-up on what’s new in campus technology as well as a few reminders about campus resources and procedures:

Things all Pioneers should know

ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY requirement implemented

Effective September 11, 2017, all UW-Platteville account holders will be required to review the Regent Policy 25-3 and UW System Administrative Policy 1034 related to Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources when creating or changing their campus password. Find details in the ITS Knowledge Base News.

 

ITS will NEVER ask for your username and password in an email.  Never, ever.  Seriously!

If you receive an email claiming your account is full or threatening to revoke your access, don’t fall for it! You should never provide any username, password, bank numbers, or similar personal information in at email.  Should you receive a suspicious message in your campus email, contact the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400 to report it.  No time? Delete the message!

Equipment Checkout

Free equipment rental is available through the ITS Help Desk.  Contact the Help Desk to reserve and check out laptops, media equipment, and more.

 

ITS scheduled maintenance

ITS maintains a weekly window for upgrades, maintenance, and repair from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Fridays.  These planned outages are posted to the campus Maintenance Calendar. Full details outlining which systems are affected each week are posted to the ITS Knowledge Base News and the ITS Help Desk Facebook page, amongst other places. NOTE: The weekly maintenance email will be suspended effective September 30, 2017.

 

Help Desk Academic Hours of operation

Call, email, or stop by first floor Karrmann Library:

  • Monday – Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Fridays: 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Email and phone support is also provided outside office hours:

  • Mon-Fri 7:00 – 7:30 a.m.
  • Sat 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Sun 11:00 a.m.  5:00 p.m.

support liaisons

Each department on campus is assigned a support liaison who is your proactive partner for all planning involving technology. The liaison's primary responsibilities are consultation, collaboration, coordination, and communication between ITS and the assigned departments.
