The Women in STEM (WiSTEM) Scholarship and Leadership Program at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville aims to provide not only financial assistance to women pursuing STEM fields, but to also support their professional development for career readiness and provide an opportunity to build community. The first four-year cohort began in fall 2020. Scholars will be selected based on talent and financial need.

PLEASE NOTE: For new students applying for Fall 2021, we currently are not offering this scholarship program. If we obtain funds from a donor to offer the scholarship and program, we will contact students who are eligible. Please watch your Email for potential updates.

D. Joanne Wilson WiSTEM Scholarship and Leadership Cohort

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is proud to announce that the first WiSTEM Scholarship Cohort has been named in honor of Joanne Wilson. Wilson is a true pioneer, blazing many trails. She joined UW-Platteville as an Assistant Professor in general Engineering, served as the first female Department Chair, Assistant Dean and Interim Dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science. She has led the UW-Platteville campus in many capacities beyond the College including Student Affairs and now as the Provost and Vice Chancellor. It is our hope that students selected as a WiSTEM Scholar will embody Joanne's focus on collaboration, positivity, and adaptability.

Eligibility

  • Apply and be accepted to UW-Platteville
  • Declare a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics major. Specific majors include the following:
    • Engineering and Technology: civil engineering, electrical Engineering, engineering physics, environmental engineering, engineering undecided, industrial engineering, industrial technology management, mechanical engineering, software engineering.
    • Agriculture: animal science, dairy science, horticulture, soil and crop science,
    • Mathematics and Science: biology, broad field science, chemistry, computer science, environment and conservation, geography, mathematics, mathematics undecided, reclamation, sustainability and renewable energy systems.
    • Education: agriculture education, high school mathematics teacher, high school science teacher, middle school mathematics teacher, middle school science teacher, technical education.
  • Be an incoming freshman
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 Credit Hours
  • Demonstrate leadership or consistent participation in extracurricular activities, including work experiences
  • Have a high school GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher
