UWP ebony ball features dinner, dance entertainment

February 10, 2003

PLATTEVILLE - Where else can you get a sit-down dinner, be entertained and dance - all for 10 bucks?

Try the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Black Student Union's popular Ebony Ball, set for Saturday, Feb. 15, from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. in the Beaux Arts Room of the Ullsvik Center.

Not only is the ball the most well-attended event of the Black History Month celebrations at the UWP, it is an enduring tradition, going back more years than anyone can remember.

The dinner menu includes roast turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet corn, dinner rolls, cheesecake, apple dumplings with ice cream and punch and water.

Entertainment will be stand-up comedian Don Reed, who has guest starred on the Cosby Show and has appeared on more than 300 campuses.

The sweet part is the price: $10 for singles and $15 for couples.

According to BSU Vice President Shaunte James, the event is "going to be elegant, so the attire should be formal." Tickets can be purchased at the Center for the Arts Box Office through Feb. 13. There will be no tickets sold at the door.

"Please come out and have an enjoyable night," said James.
