UW-Platteville named ACI Outstanding University
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The American Concrete Institute has selected the University of Wisconsin-Platteville as an Outstanding University for 2016. This award recognizes universities that have outstanding student participation in ACI-related activities/programs.
According to concrete.org, ACI is a worldwide resource for developing and distributing standards, resources, educational and training programs, certification programs, and expertise for all those involved in concrete design, construction and materials. ACI has over 95 chapters, 110 student chapters, and nearly 20,000 members in over 120 countries. ACI recognizes the outstanding universities at its annual conference.
Dr. Danny Xiao, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, is excited that UW-Platteville was selected for this award because it represents the hardworking students, faculty, and staff, as well as the support from the industry. Events that students participated in throughout 2016 include the ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition, Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Bowling Ball Competition, ACI Spring 2016 Convention in Milwaukee, 2016 UW-Platteville College of EMS Expo, and the initiation of the UW-Platteville ACI Student Chapter. Reaching this level in the first year of participating is a great honor as only 23 universities are receiving this award for 2016.
UW-Platteville will be awarded a special banner, an electronic banner, and will be featured in the Concrete International magazine. The university will be recognized at the ACI Spring 2017 Concrete Convention and Exposition in Detroit, Michigan, on Sunday, March 26.
