PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will host its Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Senior Design Open House on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Markee Pioneer Student Center. Nearly 100 students from the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science are participating in the event.

The Senior Design Open House will feature 24 projects and 36 posters in the areas of mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, sustainability and renewable energy systems, computer science and software engineering, and civil and environmental engineering.

Throughout the semester students have been working on projects with industry partners to design outcomes that adhere to applicable engineering and other standards, as well as problem constraints. At the open house, these teams will present their research, work and prototypes to their industry sponsors as well as other faculty, staff and students.

“The senior design open house is a great opportunity to visit the campus and learn more about the senior design program. It provides present and future sponsors the chance to meet the student teams and gain insight and ideas about collaboration between UW-Platteville and corporate sponsors and how the program can help them reach their organizational goals,” said Mike Hineline, College of EMS prototyping center manager.

This semester’s senior design sponsors include Andersen Window, Darrow Productions, Design Specialties, Dubuque County Energy District, Frito-Lay, GEA Farm Technologies, Green Dubuque, Higdon Outdoors, Joel Goodman, John Deere, Olson Aluminum Castings, Rockwell Automation, Seats Incorporated, Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, Spectrum Brands, The Mining and Rollo Jamison Museums, Tormach, TRANE Engineering, UW-Platteville, and Vollrath Co. LLC.

Presentations will take place in the Markee Pioneer Student Center from 8 a.m.-5:15 p.m. The event is open to the public. For more information about the program or to RSVP for the event, visit www.uwplatt.edu/ems/senior-design-projects or contact Hineline at hinelinem@uwplatt.edu or 608-342-7132.
