PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – On Thursday, Jan. 11, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville will host Giving Voice to Values: Putting your Ethics into Action. This workshop, designed to assist with values-driven leadership development, provides the practical tools and skills needed to effectively voice and act on values in the workplace.

Created and directed by Dr. Mary C. Gentile, Giving Voice to Values curriculum offers practical exercises, cases, modules, scripts and teaching plans for handling a wide range of ethical conflicts in the workplace. This curriculum has been piloted in nearly 1,000 schools, companies and other organizations across the world.

“This event will provide new tools to not only help our graduates make correct ethical decisions, but act on those decisions,” Dr. Philip Parker, an assistant dean in UW-Platteville’s College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science, said. “This is the next step when it comes to ethics.”

The workshop will be held in 103 Doudna Hall and include two sessions. From 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Gentle will present on Giving Voice to Values: Putting your Ethics into Action. Following the morning session, attendees will discuss how to implement what they’ve learned into the classroom through various interactive case studies. An online course is offered ahead of time to prepare for the workshop.

“Making ethical decisions can be hard,” Parker said. “If it wasn’t, we wouldn’t be holding this workshop. It’s even more difficult to act on those ethical decisions, which is something our students need to know how to do.”

Giving Voice to Values: Putting your Ethics into Action is open to everyone including UW-Platteville faculty, staff, students, friends of the university, practicing engineers and the general public. Engineers can earn four professional development hours by attending this event.

Registration is required as seats are limited, and can be done online. A $200 registration fee is required to cover lunch and additional materials. The sign-up deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018.
