UW-Platteville to honor military with Field of Honor
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s Wright Center for Non-Traditional and Veteran Students will be creating a Field of Honor to be displayed during Veteran’s Week. This event is one of the ways in which the university honors and acknowledges the service of its student veterans and active military members.
“It is important for us to recognize our student veteran population because they are a group within our university who does not seek recognition, but they have done things a lot of other students have not,” Coordinator of the Wright Center for Non-Traditional and Veteran Students Greg Tremelling said. “It is important to recognize that they’re significant to our community, and we want to make sure they understand we are supporting their service.”
This year, the Wright Center hopes to match, if not increase, the 144 flags that represented last year’s Field of Honor. Anyone is able to support this event by sponsoring a flag. Each of the flags will have a custom dog tag attached to it, and the tags represent veterans and active duty members who have served both in the United States and overseas. Sponsorships are available through Nov. 2.
Along with the Field of Honor, the Wright Center will also host various events throughout the week, including a veteran luncheon, the flag raising ceremony, letters from home and the veteran’s reception, which is open to the public with an RSVP. Check the UW-Platteville events calendar for a listing of all events.
The flags will be displayed from Nov. 10-17 on the West Lawn between the student center and the Pioneer Activity Center. To sponsor a flag, or for more information, contact Tremelling at firstname.lastname@example.org or 608-342-7596.
