Udelhofen to direct admission & enrollment services

May 16, 2003

PLATTEVILLE - As a University of Wisconsin-Platteville undergraduate and graduate alumnus, recruitment manager Angela Udelhofen is a natural at selling what she believes in, UWP. Expanding that verve for the University, Udelhofen will step into the position of interim director of admission and enrollment services at UWP this July. Udelhofen will replace Richard Schumacher, dean of admission and enrollment management, who is retiring.

"Dr. Schumacher has been an excellent mentor for me through the admission process," Udelhofen said. "I am very excited to implement some changes in the offices that I will be supervising and I'm enthusiastic about working with the staff."

As the interim director, Udelhofen will be responsible for a number of University initiatives such as directing recruitment and enrollment of undergraduate, graduate and other potential students; supervising the offices of recruitment, admission and the visitor center; serving as the primary admission liaison between UWP and the UW System and collaborating with other campus departments for the recruitment of students. In addition to the challenges of stepping into a new role, Udelhofen faces several other obstacles of the job.

"Creating the same services while working with budget cuts and meeting students needs through recruitment and admissions with fewer resources will be challenging," Udelhofen said. "We will also be going through a large database upgrade, so gauging where we're at with enrollment numbers and targets will be a continuing monitoring process."

Having worked closely with Schumacher for the past several years, Udelhofen has already developed several goals for her new position.

"An obvious goal in admission is to increase the yield of students who enroll at UWP," Udelhofen said. "I would also like to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the application process in the admission office."

Dr. Michael Viney, assistant chancellor for student affairs, said he has full confidence in Udelhofen's abilities to fulfill the duties of the position.

"Angela has an outstanding background in marketing skills and has had a significant impact on recruiting since she joined the University," Viney said. "I think she will provide outstanding leadership in recruiting and admission."

Udelhofen joined the staff at UWP in 2000 as an admission advisor and then moved into the position of recruitment manager. She received her undergraduate degree in broadcast communication with a minor in business and an emphasis in advertising sales. She continued her education at UWP, earning a master's degree in agricultural industries and economics.

Udelhofen's professional experience prior to UWP includes working in public relations for the department of agriculture and serving as director of producer services for the Wisconsin Pork Producers. She also worked for the Monsanto Dairy Business in project management, costumer service and marketing.

Udelhofen is a native of Dodgeville. She and her husband, Jeff, who owns Hooks Autobody and General Aluminum, reside in Platteville with their 16-month old son, Callin. In her free time, Udelhofen enjoys gardening, taking her son to the family farm and is involved with the Platteville Optimist Club.
