Tabrizi selected as Educator of the Year

PLATTEVILLE, Wis.­­­ — Industrial technology educator Dr. Majid Tabrizi has taught University of Wisconsin-Platteville students for 26 years. Recently, he was selected as Educator of the Year by a group of former students, and was selected as the recipient of this honor by the Society of Plastics Engineers- Milwaukee. He will officially accept the award in Milwaukee, Wis., on April 17.

In addition to his work in teaching, Tabrizi is also the director of the Center for Plastics Processing Technology at UW-Platteville, a multi-million dollar facility that is among the best-equipped laboratories in the state and region, according to its website.

As a result of Tabrizi’s work within the plastics program and his educational style, his students are becoming proactive in their learning so that they don’t need to do training in the industry, he said.

“I always say that I am a good partner in my students’ education,” said Tabrizi. “Through my work with the Center for Plastics Processing Technology, I am constantly interacting with the industry to see what they want and need from their students as new professionals. It is my job to make sure that the student is productive in their working environment and that they have the skills, experience and training that the industry wants.”

Tabrizi is remembered fondly by his former students and is still in contact with many of them, even the first students who graduated from the program more than 24 years ago.

“I hope what they found most memorable was my non-traditional teaching style,” he said. “I’ve never had a student who hasn’t taught me something. It is our mission to be partners and help each other be successful in our businesses.”
