Romantic Cello Concert

Benjamin Shapira's performance will benefit the Orchestra Scholarship Fund.

PLATTEVILLE - The Romantic Cello Concert, to be performed by Benjamin Shapira, director of the university orchestra at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, will serve as a fundraiser for the Orchestra Scholarship Fund.

Shapira, will perform the Romantic Cello Concert, on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 8:00 p.m. The concert will take place at the Richard and Helen Brodbeck Concert Hall located in the Center for the Arts. The program will feature some well-known all time favorites, including the Schubert's "Arpeggione Sonata," Schumann's "Fantasy Pieces," as well as some romantic miniatures such as Saint Saens' "The Swan," the "Faur Sicilane" and other works. This concert is the first in a series of three supporting the Orchestra Scholarship Fund.

"The Orchestra Scholarship Fund, supports and creates a stronger and healthier orchestra, which allows the orchestra to better serve the communities musical interests and needs," said Shapira.

Shapira has been the winner of numerous competitions and awards including the Artists International Competition and Israeli Music Competition.

All proceeds generated from the concert will be contributed to the Orchestra Scholarship Fund.

Tickets are available at the university box office or by calling (608) 342-1298. Ticket prices are as follows: general admission $15, UWP faculty and staff, $7, UWP students and children under the age of 18 are free.
