Another campus tradition returns in person, as the annual Richland Road Rallye comes off the blocks and starts its engines on Friday, May 13 at UW-Platteville Richland. The event is a clue-solving, driving race at safe speeds that pits students, faculty, alumni and any other community members who want to test their knowledge of greater Richland County history and geography in a race to the finish line.

UW-Platteville Richland will be expanding three of its new Professional Pathways programs, thanks to a new grant from the We Energies Foundation.  The $5,000 grant, all targeted for the UW-Platteville Richland’s service area, will fund outreach efforts for programs for area high school students, particularly in traditionally underserved communities working toward enrolling in college.

Richland Promise scholarship increases to $1,200 per year

The Richland Promise scholarship guarantee has been raised to $1,200 after a vote by the board of the Richland County Campus Foundation. All incoming new freshmen at UW-Platteville Richland who fill out a simple scholarship application will now be guaranteed at least $600 per semester.

After growing up in Canada, Demi Vetesnik, program manager for the UW-Platteville Continuing Education Institute, made the jump to the United States for college when a soccer scholarship led her to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 2019, she joined the CEI team at UW-Platteville Richland Center. As part of her responsibilities, Vetesnik provides quality programming for the community she now lives in.

No application fee to UW-Platteville branch campuses through June 15

For more than 40 years, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville has been an institutional leader in distance education. In 1978, UW-Platteville started a print-based program and then in 1999 the institution became the first public university in Wisconsin to offer degrees online. This experience in leadership helped make a smooth transition when the university and the branch campuses went into alternative delivery mode in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nguyen to present research on Vietnam economy

Vietnam, Ha Nguyen’s home before enrolling at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Richland, has undergone big structural economic change since the mid-1980s, when most market restrictions were lifted. She has performed a review of the Vietnamese government’s major economic policy changes over the last 30 years, and will share her research with legislators, state leaders, alumni and the public at the 17th annual Research in the Rotunda event.

Compton named interim assistant provost for branch campuses

Compton is in his 24th year at UW-Platteville, currently serving as professor of environmental horticulture and plant biotechnology. He previously served as the director of the School of Agriculture for nine years. Prior to UW-Platteville, he was a postdoctoral research associate at Central Florida Research and Education Center, a branch campus of the University of Florida.
