Pioneer Farm reps meet with state dairy producers

March 7, 2003

PLATTEVILLE - UW-Platteville Pioneer Farm representatives recently attended four producer value showcases hosted by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board (WMMB). The events were held in Eau Claire, Madison, Fond du Lac and Green Bay, with several hundred people attending each event.

The producer value showcases provide dairy producers with opportunities to learn and ask questions about current and future programs, how their investment pays off and gives them a chance to meet with directors of WMMB. It also provides the opportunity to interact with other producers, marketers, researchers and processors to public organizations and private agricultural service companies. Corey Weigel, Pioneer Farm dairy manager said, "The showcases gave producers an excellent opportunity to find out what things are going on at Pioneer Farm. Having a display at the showcases also gave dairy producers a chance to learn about the dairy, and to ask questions about things we are doing here at Pioneer Farm pertaining to the dairy industry."

Pioneer Farm representatives set up a display at each event that informed the attendees about current research and recent developments. Representatives also explained the various components of the Wisconsin Agricultural Stewardship Initiative (WASI) and informed those in attendance about WASI's mission. A Discovery Farms representative also attended the events and, together with Pioneer Farm representatives, educated the public regarding the research endeavors that are focused on making agriculture more environmentally friendly while remaining economically sound.
