Pioneer Farm Hosts Hoof Clinic

February 24, 2003

PLATTEVILLE-The Pioneer Farm hosted a Hoof Care Clinic on Dec. 10. The clinic, sponsored by Renaissance Nutrition, featured Dr. Jim Nocek. Dr. Noeck is a noted expert in hoof care and maintenance. He has done clinical testing nationally and has interest in a farm in New York.

The morning began with a presentation by Dr. Noeck, followed by a catered lunch and live demonstrations in the afternoon. The demonstrations explained how to notice problems with cow's hooves and how to treat them. Twenty-five producers and 10 students/professors were present at the clinic.

It was set up to be a helpful training session for local farmers. Pioneer Farm desires to assist producers through educating them regarding new techniques or information that pertains to them. Better hoof care can help farmers increase production and profits.

"It opened my eyes to how cows walk. Dr. Nocek explained a new system of scoring cows by observing how the cows walk. It was practical things like this that made the event beneficial," said Corey Weigel, the Pioneer Farm Dairy Manager.
