Frayer named interim director of Office of Sponsored Programs
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Christopher Frayer was recently appointed interim director of the Office of Sponsored Programs at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Frayer has been a professor in the mathematics department since 2008.
As interim director of the Office of Sponsored Programs, Frayer provides support to UW-Platteville faculty, staff and students when applying for grants, contracts and other sponsored projects. This includes answering grant-related questions, submitting proposals, assisting with budgets and helping to administer grants once they are received.
Frayer gained experience with the Office of Sponsored Programs when he worked extensively with them last December to apply for a large grant from the National Science Foundation. He reflected on his time so far as interim director, noting that it is proving to be a good learning experience.
“Mathematicians like to view things from different perspectives,” said Frayer. “This has certainly been a change of pace from teaching, and has allowed me to see the university from a different point of view. So far it has been a very enjoyable experience.”
Frayer earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Grand Valley State University, in Allendale, Mich., and his master’s and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Kentucky. In 2012, he was presented with the UW-Platteville College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science Exemplary Teaching Award.
