Franke to address graduates

2003_12_05_b.jpgPLATTEVILLE- Jerold P. Franke will be the principal speaker at the fall 2003 commencement services to be held Dec. 13. Franke graduated from UWP in 1973, with majors in geography and economics. He is now the president of WISPARK LLC, the real estate development subsidiary of Wisconsin Energy Corporation.

Franke joined WISPARK as director of business development in 1988. He served as vice president, then senior vice president for several years, before being named president in 2000. During his time with WISPARK, the company has developed several major real estate projects in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and California, including an award-winning mixed-use business park in southeast Wisconsin.

Before joining WISPARK, Franke served as vice president for economic development for Forward Wisconsin, Inc., the state's economic development marketing organization, acting city manager and director of community development for the city of Janesville and in various urban planning positions in Des Moines and Waterloo, Iowa.

Franke is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties and chaired its Business Parks Forum, the Urban Land Institute, and, the Wisconsin Economic Development Association.

Franke presently serves on the boards of directors of WISPARK LLC, Syndesis Development Corporation, Johnson Bank, the Kenosha Area Business Alliance, Downtown Racine Corporation, the Racine County Economic Development Corporation, and Forward Wisconsin. He is past president of the board of directors of the United Way of Kenosha County and was its campaign chair in 1992. Franke is also the past chairman of the board of directors of Downtown Racine Corporation, past president of the Wisconsin Economic Development Association, and a past member of the UW-Platteville Foundation board of directors.

Franke and his wife, Lynn (also a UWP graduate), live in Racine with their two sons, Nathan and Michael.
