Comedian Shang Forbes to visit UW-Platteville

February 11, 2003

PLATTEVILLE- Black Student Union (BSU) and Campus Programming and Relations (CPR) will recognize Black History Month and kick off this year's Feb Follies events with famous African-American comedian Shang Forbes on Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Beaux Arts Room.

Originally from Brooklyn and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, Shang started his career by performing at a local comedy club on open mic night. His quick wit and comical theatrics soon made him famous and he has since been featured on HBO's "Def Comedy Jam," "Politically Incorrect," "NBC Comedy Showcase," VH-1's "The List" and Comedy Central's "Comic Justice." Shang has also guest starred on the hit sitcoms "The Jamie Foxx Show" and "The Parenthood" and will be featured on international televised shows in Japan, Ireland, London and Amsterdam.

Stand-up comedian Shang will be a free event open to the public including students, faculty and community members.

This will be the second co-sponsored event between BSU and CPR for the 2002-03 school year, and each organization is looking to sponsor more events together in the future.

"Multicultural Services and CPR will continue working closely in the future to co-sponsor more student events," said Carlos Wiley, interim director of Multicultural Services.
