Colorful Fasching event offers Mardis Gras ambiance

February 26, 2003

PLATTEVILLE-Mardi Gras merriment with live music, dancing and cultural foods will highlight the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's sixth annual Fasching/Carnaval set for Thursday, Feb. 27 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Ullsvik Center's Beaux Arts Room, Galleria and Touche Room.

The year's celebration will feature live music by the Grant County Brass Band and free snacks. A limbo contest and Wheel of Fasching game show are also planned.

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and get their faces painted. Games, including a life-size chess set and other entertainment, will be offered for kids of all ages.

Best of all, the event is free and open to the public.

A full menu featuring French and German food and drink will be available for purchase. Many menu items are free.

The French and German festivals - Carnaval and Fasching - are traditionally held on Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. The seven weeks of the Christian Lenten season follow.

The UWP French and German Clubs and the Student Activities Board are sponsoring the event.
