Collegiate Crops Team places fifth nationally

In a recent competition, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Collegiate Crops Team placed fifth in both the Kansas City National Contest on Nov. 13 and Chicago National Contest on Nov. 17.

UW-Platteville participants were Shannon Lamb (Dane, Wisconsin), David McGuire ( Brodhead, Wisconsin) and Kayla Rayburn (Stillman Valley, Illinois). UW-Platteville alternates were Audrey Pelikan (Sullivan, Wisconsin), Zack Mickelson (DeForest, Wisconsin) and Anastasia Kurth (Geneva, Illinois). Shannon Lamb was the highest scorer for UW-Platteville.

The contest consists of three phases: Plant/Seed Identification, Seed Analysis and Commercial Grain Grading. Kayla Rayburn placed 10th in grain grading in Chicago.

The UW-Platteville team has competed in 49 consecutive contests since 1970. In both contests since 1970, the team has placed third in 17 contests, second in 26 contests and first in 10 contests.

The contests are sponsored by the Crop Science Society of America and the American Society of Agronomy.
