Mission statement

Opera Workshop offers a learning atmosphere for each student through studying, rehearsing and performing opera/operetta repertoire.  Leading roles receive individualized vocal coaching as part of the class.  Students study opera/operetta roles, languages, and build a deeper sense of characters through blocking and scene work.  The final project culminates in staged presentations of scenes and operas studied throughout the semester.

Opera-2-Go is the outreach component of Opera Workshop. This program offers an out-of-the classroom teaching and learning experience for all students.  Music Education students, who have the opportunity to be a lead student teacher, gain valuable wisdom and guidance from experienced teachers in the field of Vocal Music Education as they experience teaching music, language and staging to grade school through high school students.  Opera-2-Go gives UW-Platteville students an opportunity to mentor grade school through high school students through music, theater and the arts.  Each year, we reach out into the community and bring opera to outlaying public schools in Wisconsin.

Fall 2013 Program:

  • Scenes from Hansel & Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck.
  • Touring Cassville December 5th & Platteville Middle School (4-5th grades), December 6th, 2013
