Student Technology Advisory Committee wants you!
Interested in influencing technology decisions at UW-Platteville? The Student Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) is welcoming new members for Spring 2016.
STAC is charged with prioritizing and recommending projects for disbursement of the Student Technology Fee. The purpose of the fee is to visibly benefit students through improvements to such campus resources as computer labs, printers, and overall access to technology.
Past IT projects STAC has funded include wireless in the residence halls, Kurzweil 3000 software, the Adobe site license, and new student IDs. STAC also assisted with funding for bring-your-own-device (BYOD) spaces in Karrmann Library and Doudna and Ottensman Halls. The committee also consults on campus IT projects like the new printing policy, computer lab reductions, and classroom modernization. In Spring 2015 STAC advocated for mobile devices in the classroom by hosting a forum with faculty.
Responsibilities and Rewards
STAC members serve for a semester and can automatically renew their terms if desired. In addition to student representatives, the committee consists of an advisor, a Chancellor’s designee, ITS representatives, and faculty members. All STAC members are voting members; there are no offices within the committee.
STAC meets on the first and third Fridays of each month during the academic year. Members can volunteer for sub-committees to explore projects of individual interest.
STAC members come from all areas of study. STAC members can expect to hone their skills in finding and using resources, networking with other students, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and decision-making while improving technology for UW-Platteville students and influencing campus policy.
How do I join?
Anyone interested in joining STAC for Spring 2016 should contact advisor Colleen Garrity at firstname.lastname@example.org by February 1, 2016. STAC strives for wide representation from all areas of campus; at this time, students from LAE and BILSA are strongly encouraged to apply. Responsibilities will begin with the monthly meeting on Friday, Feb. 5.
Spring 2016 not a good fit? STAC accepts new members prior to each fall and spring term.
