Computer labs to get software updates
ITS will be updating software in UW-Platteville computer labs during Summer 2016.
Enterprise products such as AutoDesk and SPSS generally are updated on campus every two years; the updates typically include improved functionality and security measures. Upgrading to the new versions keeps student resources up-to-date.
In addition, ITS will be updating computer labs to Office 2016 and Windows 10, beginning with general access labs over spring break. Due to lack of compatibility with some required software, certain workstations or labs may not be updated to Windows 10 at this time. Lab managers should work with their IT Support Liaisons to determine whether this upgrade is appropriate. Deadline for this decision is March 31, 2016.
Note: Employee workstations will be upgraded in Fall 2016. Until then, employees who would rather not wait can install Office 2016 and Windows 10 through Software Center
New software, compatibility needs due by March 31
Departments looking to add new software to their computer labs should work with their IT Support Liaisons to coordinate the purchase and installation of the new titles. Deadline for getting new software on the list for Summer 2016 deployment is March 31, 2016.
The March 31 deadline allows staff time to test new software in preparation for summer deployment so that software is ready for use in Fall 2016.
For more information on software upgrade or to plan changes for Fall 2016, contact your IT Support Liaison.
