Engineering Seminar Series
Presenter: Thomas Zolper, UW-Platteville

Energy security has a substantial influence on foreign relations, but many concerns are not discussed in the public sphere. Threats to energy infrastructure posed by cyberattacks, and physical weapons are increasing. Fortunately, Wisconsin has the natural resources to establish energy independence.

Dr. Zolper covers how recent Congressional testimonies have brought energy resilience funds to the state. He provides an assessment of in-state biomass, hydroelectric, wind, solar and nuclear energy resources. He addresses equipment vulnerabilities and proposes an energy investment approach to provide long-term energy sustainability and security to the state of Wisconsin.
Date: Tuesday, Feb. 7
Time: 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
The Wisconsin Strategy: Infrastructure Independence

About the presenter
Dr. Thomas Zolper's research interests are in the areas of polymer rheology, multiphase flow, and energy systems. His expertise includes predictive polymer rheology on tribological interfaces and mass diffusion in two-phase flows. Recently, his research has addressed energy security (Thompson Center for Public Leadership) and the rheology of dairy products (Wisconsin Dairy Innovation Hub). Zolper earned his in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University and his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Illinois University. Prior to his academic career, he worked in the automotive industry as a design and quality engineer.
