Tuesday, March 26, 2019
Velzy Commons in Ullsvik Hall

The Tuesday, February 26 date is full. March registration is still open. If you would like to be on the wait list for February and cannot attend in March, please click HERE.

Learn about the exciting career opportunities that are available for women interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Explore careers with hands-on, interactive sessions that involve critical thinking, experimenting, learning the design process, and using problem solving skills that focus on real world problems. STEM careers make a difference in society and many more women are needed in scientific fields.

The Alliant Energy Pioneering Your Future in STEM is open to girls in fifth through eighth grade. Individuals, chaperoned school groups, home school groups, and girl scout troops are all welcome. Pioneering Your Future in STEM is a collaboration of women faculty, staff and students from STEM programs at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville such as agriculture, astronomy, biology, geography, geology, animal science, chemistry, computer science, dairy science, engineering, industrial studies, math, physics, and sustainable and renewable energy systems.

If you have a disability and would like to request accommodations, please contact Kim Sargent at or 608.342.7137.

Registration is open!

Space is limited so apply early! All participants will need to have a consent form signed, scanned and emailed or mailed. It should arrive at least five days prior to the event.

Teachers and Class Groups Only:
If you are bringing a large group of students you can send paper registrations to send home with the students for parents to fill out. That information will need to be entered into the online registration prior to the deadline. Spots cannot be held while collecting paper registration and there is a risk that the program can fill up before the deadline.

There is no cost for chaperones to attend. Chaperones are required to register and stay in the building for supervision during the event. Registering as a chaperone does not register the students. Breakfast and lunch is included for chaperones.

Approximately 20-25 students will be assigned to each group and will be divided into 3-4 tables (6-7 per table). They will be assigned a table for the welcome activities and lunch, and will sit with girls from other schools. No more than 1-2 participants at the table will be from their own school. The groups will be assigned to sessions and will attend them together as a co-hort and in order of assignment. Our mission in this program is to have the participants learn about careers that are not familiar to them and get to know girls from other schools. We want to expose them to topics that they might not choose on their own and that is why they are assigned sessions.

Pioneering Your Future will be held in the Velzy Commons and Nohr Gallery located in Ullsvik Hall, on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s campus. For help finding the location you can view a campus map and driving directions.
