Tailor your mathematics degree by selecting elective courses that will best suit your career goals. If you plan to work in business or industry after graduation choose electives from the applied mathematics courses such as differential equations, numerical analysis, probability, and statistics. If you plan to teach in secondary/middle schools then select courses designed for teacher preparation.
UW-Platteville mathematics majors have pursued jobs at companies such as State Farm Insurance, EPIC, IBM, Employers Insurance, Texas Instruments, Bell Laboratories, and Hughes Aircraft.
If you plan to pursue graduate work in mathematics, select courses from algebra, analysis, and geometry. If you plan on working towards an advanced degree in statistics, you should include junior-senior level probability and statistics courses among your mathematics electives.
Although UW-Platteville currently does not have a mathematics graduate program, our program provides a solid foundation so that you will be successful in attaining an advanced degree, such as Master’s and Doctorate degree, at other institutions.
You can view a list of Doctoral (Ph.D.) granting institutions in the USA in the disciplines of mathematics, applied mathematics and operations research, statistics/biostatistics, and mathematics education.
