Year of Graduation: 2018
Narisha Reddy became interested in computer science as a middle school student and decided to continue studying in the field. Reddy said, "It's kept my interest because there are so many things that you can learn with computers. It's a growing industry so there are a lot of job opportunities as well."
She chose UW-Platteville after touring the campus and frequently visiting the community of Platteville to see family members. “I like the smaller campus size and the feeling of knowing the professor and students better. The one-on-one smaller classroom size and just the general atmosphere when I toured campus was nice,” said Reddy.
In fall 2015, Reddy studied abroad in Newcastle, Australia and took general education classes at the University of Newcastle in Callaghan, Australia. “It was a great experience. I traveled all around the east coast of the country. It is very beautiful there and there was a lot to do,” said Reddy. She has also participated in geography course trips each summer while enrolled at UW-Platteville, traveling around Wisconsin and the United States.
While studying in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Reddy has learned important skills for her future career. Reddy said, “I felt that the classes really focus on the basic foundations that we need to be able to apply or learn more of for the workforce. In the internships that I have done, I have noticed that I am implementing what I learned from different classes.” Reddy has completed summer internships as a software engineer with Cartegraph Inc. and as a quality assurance intern at StudyBlue Inc. In summer 2017, she will be a COBOL Developer intern at Great Lakes Higher Education Co.
After graduation, Reddy plans to find a job in the computer science and software engineering field in the Madison area. She hopes that she will be able to find a job that will also allow her to use her degree in geography and continue traveling around the world. After working for a company for a few years, she plans to continue her education and earn her master’s degree.
