Policies and Procedures On Misconduct In Scholarly Research
Recognizing that honesty in the conduct of academic research is fundamental to its integrity and credibility, and to the maintenance of public trust in the university, UW-Platteville has adopted policies and procedures for reviewing and investigating allegations of misconduct in scholarly research. These policies and accompanying procedures can be obtained in detail in the Vice Chancellor's office upon request. For the purposes of these policies and procedures, "misconduct in scholarly research" means fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or other practices that seriously deviate from those that are commonly accepted within the academic community for proposing, conducting, or reporting research. It does not include honest error or honest differences in interpretations or judgments of data. Retaliation of any kind against a person who reports or provides information about suspected or alleged misconduct and who has acted in good faith is also considered misconduct.
Misconduct in scholarly research is prohibited at the UW-Platteville, and may be cause for discipline or dismissal. The complete policy and procedures statement on this topic is available in the Vice Chancellor's office.
