Mike Gau named Assistant Executive Director
UW-Platteville’s Alternative Delivery Systems division—which is comprised of the Distance Learning Center and the Office of Continuing Education—recently named Mike Gau as Assistant Executive Director. In this position, Gau will be involved in a wide variety of activities, including oversight of continuing education, compliance, research, assessment, grants, and fundraising for the division. In addition, he will be the main contact for the program coordinators of the online programs, and he will work on projects that span across the division. Gau will also be involved in developing new programs, both credit and non-credit, and providing leadership with research and development of other new initiatives.
"I'm thrilled to have Mike be a part of the Alternative Delivery Systems team. The wide variety of experiences that Mike has been involved with has prepared him well to help the division continue to be successful,” said Dawn Drake, Executive Director of ADS.
Gau is a native of Dubuque, Iowa. After receiving his Juris Doctorate at the University of Iowa College of Law in 1987, he began practicing law and continued for over 20 years. His first foray into education was in 1999 as an adjunct criminal justice professor at Loras College. In 2000, Gau was hired to teach legal assistant and criminal justice courses full-time at Northeast Iowa Community College, and in 2003, he became the Dean of Arts and Sciences. Gau stayed with NICC until 2014, when he took a job at U.S. Bank as the managing director of the trust department. His role in ADS marks his return to education.
“I wanted to get back into higher education, because I missed the creativity of it, working with students and staff, the business aspect—I loved everything about it. I like to problem solve and create new opportunities for students,” Gau said. “My personal goal is to learn as much as there is to know about the Office of Continuing Education and the Distance Learning Center. I am fortunate to work with both areas. I wanted to be part of an organization that’s successful and growing, and whatever I need to do to continue to help us grow and succeed, I’m all in.”
