Giving students the best opportunities for learning is paramount for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s Distance Learning Center as goals for the current five-year growth plan include enhancing and upgrading the uses of technology. To support that endeavor, this year’s theme for the fall Annual Campaign is technology.

“As we continue to embody the Wisconsin Idea of bringing education to people globally, we know our focus on giving students the ability to learn with the newest and most advanced technologies throughout their coursework is necessary,” said Dawn Drake, Executive Director of Alternative Delivery Systems, which houses the DLC. “I really want to see virtual and augmented reality and gamification techniques included in our curricula. These additions will provide different learning modalities to help students learn and become more valuable within their companies and give them an edge in their careers. Ensuring that students learn with these opportunities is exciting, and I’m looking forward to the DLC incorporating many new technology products in our teaching and learning.”

Beginning in late September, alumni will receive calls from UW-Platteville students asking them to make a donation to the DLC’s Annual Campaign fund to help generate the dollars needed to continue the research and development of new opportunities for technology to be used throughout the online classes. Faculty have shown an interest in utilizing technology that will increase student engagement, and the DLC wants to provide instructors with various avenues of communicating with their students and providing feedback.

“In past campaigns, we have been able to create new scholarships through alumni donations, which make such a positive impact on students,” Drake said. “We appreciate the help and support that alumni give the students, staff and faculty. We look forward to sharing with everyone what this year’s support will bring to help us make our students’ education experience even greater in the future.”
