The Corporate Training Center at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville provides this essential course in suicide prevention. It is intended for parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, squad leaders, supervisors, police officers, advisors, caseworkers, firefighters, counselors, coaches, and others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide.

The QPR Gatekeeper Program

People trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver help save thousands of lives each year.

People trained in QPR learn to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis, and three simple steps to help save a life from suicide: Question, Persuade, and Refer.

Anyone can become a trained gatekeeper. This training program has been carefully developed by the QPR Institute, and all of our trainers have gone through an extensive QPR certification training program. The QPR Gatekeeper program is taught in a clear, concise, and interactive classroom format.

You will gain the following skills through this certification:

  • Gain the ability to question, persuade, and refer someone who may be suicidal
  • Know how to get help for yourself, and learn more about preventing suicide
  • Describe the common causes of suicidal behavior
  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide
  • Know how to get help for someone in a crisis

All learners receive a QPR booklet that contains all information reviewed in the training, additional research and information, and a wallet card. This will allow you to review the training as a situation arises where QPR is needed.
