We are pleased to announce the third annual Wisconsin Delegation Trip to China. It is a two-week educational trip hosted by UW-Platteville Confucius Institute and its Chinese partner, South-Central University for Nationalities (SCUN).

Getting Started

The Delegation Trip to China is open to all Wisconsin students 18 years old and older and Kindergarten - College education professionals.

Please attend our Delegation Trip Information Fair on Monday, October 9,2017 to learn more about the trip and speak to students and trip leaders who have participated in past years.

EDUCATORS

This trip focuses on school visits, cultural activities, and interactive workshops with the aim of helping education decision-makers start or expand their Chinese language and culture programs.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Visit Chinese K–16 schools to meet with Chinese educators and observe classes.
  • Learn about resources that will help build and support Chinese language and culture programs.
  • Experience China firsthand and marvel at the rich traditional culture set against stunning modern development.

Required Travel Documents

Passport

You must have a valid passport with at least 8 months of validity remaining and at least two blank pages. If you do not have a passport, please submit your application no later than January 20, 2018 to ensure enough time for Chinese visa processing.

Chinese Visa

We will provide a visa application submission service. You must submit all materials by March 23, 2018 in order to take advantage of this service. If you miss our deadline, we recommend you use www.mychinavisa.com to apply for your visa yourself.

To obtain your visa, you will need:

  • Your passport
  • A high-quality copy of your passport
  • Chinese Visa Application Form
  • One passport type photo, with a white background, taken by a professional passport photo service, such as Walgreens, CVS, CostCo, or Kinko's, etc. Download a visa application photo guide here.
  • Photocopy of round-trip airline reservation, lodging reservations for any times before or after Delegation Trip, if applicable, and lodging reservation for trip (we will provide this).
  • Money order of $140 for consular fee payable to Chinese Consulate Chicago (if you're submitting yourself after March 23 deadline, expect additional fees for processing and shipping.)

 

Travel Insurance

All members of the trip are required to have travel insurance coverage. We will enroll you in a CISI plan. Learn more about CISI at www.culturalinsurance.com. Please contact Robert Johnson at 608-342-1010 or johnsonrobe@uwplatt.edu if you have any questions about travel insurance.

Expenses

Expenses that are included in the program are:

  • Room and Board
  • Domestic transportation within China
  • Activities
  • Admission Fees and Tour Costs

Expenses you are responsible for are:

  • Program Processing Fee of $100
  • Round-trip flight of $700-$1200
  • International Travel Insurance Fee of $34
  • Visa Application fees of $140-$300
  • Personal spending money of $200+

STUDENTS

This trip focuses on language training, cultural activities, and interactive workshops with the aim of helping university students better understand Chinese language and culture, be more culturally-aware and gain international experience.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend Chinese language training (no background needed)
  • Visit Chinese universities, meet with university students, observe classes, and experience campus life. 
  • Experience Chinese cultures through lectures and workshops.
  • Explore the rich traditional culture set against the stunning modern development.
  • Stay with a Chinese host family to gain a better understanding of common Chinese people and their life.
