Association for Operations Management (APICS)
APICS is the professional association for supply chain and operations management and the leading provider of research, education and certification programs that elevate supply chain excellence and innovation. Its mission is to foster the advancement of end-to-end supply chain and operations management through a body of knowledge, innovative research, systems, and methods that create value for customers, members and organizations.
Meetings are held once a month. Members participate in career networking activities, speaker presentations and plant tours with our Madison APICS chapter. Participants are also encouraged to take part in regional and national case competitions that teach overall supply chain and operations strategies. Beta Alpha is an organization for students who are interested in the accounting profession. It promotes camaraderie among accounting students, stimulates an interest in accounting, creates closer bonds between students and the business world, plays an active role in university and community activities, and enhances the accounting program at UW-Platteville.
Members participate in events such as Meet the Firms Night, In-Night, field trips, and meetings featuring speakers on topics related to the accounting profession. Beta Alpha also sponsors social events. There are about 15-20 members of Beta Alpha, and the group meets monthly. Dues are $6.00 per semester, or $10.00 per year. Pioneer Investment Club
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer Investment Club was established in 2001 to provide an opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the field of finance through portfolio management.
The Pioneer Investment Club manages a portfolio of investments valued at over $500,000. The club allows students from any major to come together and work as a team to achieve both academic and financial goals. Any student can pitch security to the club and if they are successful the club will buy the security and add it to their portfolio.
Meetings are held once a week to discuss and research possible future investments along with its current portfolio holdings. The Pioneer Investment Club researches different investment philosophies and discusses many different aspects of the field of finance. Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest professional association devoted to human resource management with more than 200,000 members in over 100 countries. The UW-Platteville chapter is sponsored by the Greater Madison area SHRM chapter and has ties with the Tri-State Human Resource Association (TRIHRA) chapter in Dubuque, Iowa.
Campus chapter activities vary and include rèsumè writing workshops, speakers on current human resource management, community service, and professional networking opportunities. During the 2005–06 academic year, the chapter sponsored members’ travel to state workshops and activities, and social functions including a senior salute.
Local dues are $5 per year. National membership dues for students are $35 per year; international student membership is $55 per year. Students declaring a human resource management emphasis may be eligible for dues reimbursement. National or international membership includes a subscription to Human Resource Magazine, HR News, and the Echoes newsletter, and access to resources available in the “members only” area of the national SHRM website.

American Marketing Association (AMA)
The American Marketing Association Student Chapter started at UW-Platteville in 2012. Membership in the AMA connects members to marketers across all specialties to collaborate, network, gain practical experience, and empower the student’s career. Students gain industry knowledge and insights along with everyday resources that will help them succeed in the classroom and beyond.
Students will gain valuable skills in marketing, have access to the American Marketing Association College 2 Career Resource Center, have the opportunity to be involved in the International Collegiate Conference and Case Competition and receive AMA publications.
Being a member of the UW-Platteville Student Chapter of the American Marketing Association offers a unique opportunity to develop the marketing skills that you will need as a business professional.
