Preparing for college is an exciting and busy time for students and families alike. One of the most important things you can do to support your student during this transition is encourage them to take part in our New Student Experience. For an overview of this experience and your role in it, please take a moment to watch a video from our Provost, Dr. Tammy Evetovich

What is New Student Experience?

NSE is our three-step approach to preparing your student to transition to UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County, including Advising and Registration, Orientation, and Welcome Week.

We will be communicating directly with your student about required actions and important deadlines to ensure they get the most out of this experience. Some important items to note are:

  • All students must register for and take the UW System Placement Tests before they are able to meet with their advisor and register for classes. Students are charged a $30 fee on their fall tuition bill for the UW System Placement exams.
  • The New Student Experience fee is $75 and will appear on the semester billing statement. This fee covers materials, mailings, student staff, and Welcome Week activities.

What can you do to help your student?

We have created several forms of communication so you can get updates, stay informed, and make connections with the university and other parents and families of new students.

Connections with Campus

We hope you found our Connections with Campus sessions useful. If you missed any of them, please click on a topic below to review the content shared at that session.

Your student will soon have a lot of tasks complete as part of NSE. While they should start to take responsibility for these tasks, some gentle reminders to check their campus email or contact the New Student Experience team if they have questions can keep them on track and help them develop their independence.
