acid. Give the mechanism (curved arrows) for the acid catalyzed
hydrolysis of an amide.
- 2. Give the structure of the product of the reaction of isobutyl
propionate with excess isopropyl magnesium bromide followed by mild
acid work-up.
- 3. Transesterification of ethylene glycol and diethyl malonate
gives a polymeric polyester. Give the structure of a portion of
the polymer showing at least four monomer units.
- 4. Outline a synthesis of ethyl propionate starting from methanol,
ethanol, and/or any inorganic reagent.
