About Me
I currently serve as an Assistant Professor of Physics in the Department of Chemistry and Engineering Physics at University of Wisconsin - Platteville. Before coming to Platteville, I was a graduate student in the Department of Physics at The Ohio State University, where I performed my dissertation research in the field of Physics Education Research (PER) under the mentorship of Andrew F. Heckler. In particular, my research interests include: student understanding of calculus and differential equations as related to physical systems, interactions between computational and spatial thinking, interactions between physical preconceptions and instruction, the origin and evolution of physical concepts, and the application of Bayesian methods to the analysis of classroom data.
At UW-Platteville, my teaching responsibilities are primarily centered around the service courses required by the various engineering programs. In particular, I have taught the calculus-based introductory sequence, and the intermediate course in modern physics. Additionally, I serve as the liaison to the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science from the Pioneer Academic Center for Community Engagement (PACCE), a member of the Institutional Review Board, and the faculty advisor for the Platteville chapter of Circle-K.
While at OSU, I served as a laboratory and recitation instructor for most of the courses in the Algebra-based, Calculus-based, and Freshmen Engineering Honors introductory physics sequences. Prior to graduate school, I taught high school Chemistry and Physics at Pleasant Local High School in Marion, Ohio. Near the end of my graduate career, I served as an adjunct lecturer at Otterbein University, where I taught a course in Statistical Methods to students enrolled in the graduate program in education, and The Ohio State University at Mansfield, where I taught a course in introductory stellar and extra-galactic astronomy.
