Syed (Shawon) Rahman is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science & Software Engineering Department at University of Wisconsin-Platteville (UWP). He has earned his Ph.D. in Software Engineering degree from North Dakota State University (NDSU) in May 2006. Dr. Rahman’s research interests include Software Engineering Education, Networking, Computer Security, Software Testing, and Quality Assurance. His research focus also includes Search Engine Optimization (SEO) , Multimedia, and Lightweight Software Development Methodologies such as, eXtreme Programming and Test-driven Development. Before joining at the UWP in Fall 2006, Dr. Rahman worked three years in the software development team in the Information Technology Services at NDSU as a Project Manager. He teaches many classes at UWP such as, Software Engineering, Computer Networking, Software Security, Programming Languages, etc. To access his course websites, please login at Desire2Learn (D2L) page. Before teaching at UWP, he taught several undergraduate courses in the Department of Computer Science at NDSU including Programming in Visual Basic .NET, Microcomputer Applications, Business Uses of Computers, and Computer Science Problem Solving. Dr. Rahman is always interested in applying cutting-edge technologies in the classroom to improve students’ learning facilities. He is an active member of many professional organizations including ACM, ASEE, ASQ, IEEE, and UPE. |

Dr. Rahman’s Ph.D. main adviser was Dr. Paul Juell. As part of Ph.D. research, Dr. Rahman introduced a new software development method that emphasized software testing phase, naming Testing Before Coding (TBC). TBC is categorized as a Lightweight Software Development method. TBC method has been applied in teaching several introductory programming courses for five semesters at NDSU and improved students' programs quality. To learn more about TBC, please read this paper. |
