What a wild week

Lots going on and I've not written as much as I'd like to. I keep very busy at work, and since all I do is web stuff at work, I'm a bit lazy on my personal site.

Press Release

I just had another press release done on my work at UW-Platteville. I was complimented by quite a few people on the brief article. Hopefully it will make it online soon, so I can link to it. The thing I don't like about press releases is that you don't get a chance to 'tweak' the words. I know that there are some things that are listed in the article that are not technically correct, but the vast majority of people would never know it.

I find it funny how I've become viewed as an expert, and have had numerous groups ask to have me come speak. I don't mind speaking, but I am getting a little warn on the Web Standards topic. I believe in them completely and do want to be an advocate for Web Standards, but I need to spice it up somehow.

I'm also going to submit a proposal for speaking at the HighEdWebDev conference in October. The conference chair sent me (and other presenters at the WebdevShare) an email asking for proposals. I'd like to do something about accessible forms, but I don't know how much material I would have for an hour presentation. I should propose a pre-conference topic. I did a 3.5 hour pre-conference presentation on Web Standards at CUMREC. It went well, but that's a long time to talk, and lots of information for people to absorb.

Need More Fun

I need to get out of the office more. I have quite a bit of vacation time saved up, and nowhere to spend it. I will take about a week off and work on my house. I've re-worked the front retaining wall, from the old timbers to the new stone. I also need to finish the walkway and build a new porch. I have the building permits ready to go, I just need to get the ambition to complete the project.

I also need to get out golfing this summer. I promised my son Max (who just finished 1st Grade!) that I'd take him golfing again. We had lots of fun last summer, but didn't get out as much as we wanted. Nekole and I have been tossing around the idea of getting a membership at the country club, but it is a lot of money. Perhaps we'll save up and do that next year.

I also want to get out and take my boys fishing. I'm not a angler, nor pretend to be, but some of my fondest memories as a kid are with my father and grandfather fishing. If I recall correctly, I wasn't an angler as a kid either. Still it was fun, especially throwing rocks at the fish (perhaps that's why I wasn't any good.)

Off and running

I should get going. I need to pack for the weekend. My boys are off to my folks house this morning, and I'm off to get the projects at work completed. Then I get to finish laundry and get packed for the weekend. Nekole and I are off to Rice Lake, WI for a Knights of Columbus function. We'll get back sometime on Sunday.
