Hectic Times
So much to do and so little time. I really need to keep working on my wall project, but I can't work on it unless my wife is home to watch the little one(s). Of course with Nekole still in the early stages of her new career, she's working long hours trying to get things caught up and keep things running smooth. Of course we're still trying to do some things with friends, but there seems to be even less time for that.
Tonight we were asked to go to a friend's softball game. We've promised that we would, so tonight we finally did. It was fun, but the kids just have no patience with sitting. Max is getting better, but his friends were running around, so it was tough for him to sit still too. Mic was just plain horrible to be around. He got up way to early this morning, and then played outside all day. He should have went to bed about 8:00 p.m., however the softball game didn't start until then. Mic is a 'die hard' kid. If something is going on, he wants to be part of the supposed action.
So we got home about 9:30, and I told Nekole to go out to our friends house and have fun for awhile. I gave the boys a quick snack, and cleaned them up for bed. We got a banana bread in the oven for breakfast, so I'm waiting for that to finish up. [Smells good!]
This has been a bizarre week. I did get my other pallet of block in yesterday, so I need to keep working on the wall. My buddy Joel helped me get the two ton of block hauled back on his trailer, and then we had the fun time of unloading it by hand. It was so much easier watching the fork truck put it on the trailer. After that, I mowed the lawn. I was pretty sore this morning when I woke.
Max's Summer
Max has summer school this week. He goes to class from 8:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. three weeks over the summer. This week's theme is "Mystery Week", so all of the lessons are a bit more fun. Then he will have a break for three weeks and then the next week session is on "Science"; followed by another break and finally a week on "High Adventure". It's totally voluntary to send your kids, but I figured it couldn't hurt to give him a bit more structured summer.
My mother had really given Max's summer structure! She has a deal with him that if he reads 100 books over the summer, she'll take him to Noah's Ark with my sister Susan. Needles to say, Max is ready for the challenge. He's on book number 33 right now and has only been at it a little over two weeks. I'm glad that he's doing this. I don't recalling reading well until I was much older. I'm sure this will help him academically.
The rest of Max's summer is pretty simple, playing with friends, going disc golfing with the family, and we're going to go to the Packer's Family Night on August 7. Max still wants to go camping yet this summer, golfing, and fishing, so we need to get those things on the calendar too.
Mic is still a bit too young to make 'plans', but he's excited about the Packer's Family Night. The tickets arrived the other day, and I showed them to the boys. Mic went to get his shoes and hat, because he was ready to go. I had loads of tears from him before he finally understood that it wasn't that very night.
The 4th of July
We've been invited to go to three places for the 4th. I don't know which one we're going to right now. Nekole and I need to discuss it a bit more. We really want to go to all three events, but it's impossible to do that much driving in a few short hours. I'm really looking forward to having the 5th of July off. It will be nice to sit and relax.
I really love this time of year. All of the flags, ribbons, and patriotism reminds me of so many great people that I know through the Knights of Columbus. It makes me proud to be part of an organization that focuses on charity and is very patriotic!
The 5th is also the start of my reign as Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council 1386. It seems strange to be taking the lead, but I'm up for the task. To the best of my knowledge, I'll have two years as Grand Knight, then three years as Trustee. I'm sure I'll also be Faithful Navigator for the Assembly in the next few years as well.
Whoa... The banana bread is done. Gotta run!
