A Father's Day

Happy Father's Day my two boys will soon say to me. It's quiet in the house right now as I sit downstairs with the windows open. It's finally cool outside being June and all. I'm sipping my favorite extra strong coffee, playing some classical music over the radio feature of ITunes, and it's not even 7:00 a.m. I've sorted email, read the blogs and news that I've wanted, and I'm thinking about the day ahead.

The 40th Anniversary

Not only is today Father's Day, but it's my parent's 40th Anniversary! I was kind of hoping that all of my siblings could get together and give them a big surprise party, but that's not really my folk's style. I know my parents would rather just have a small party, or more importantly plan a small party themselves. If the 'kids' did a surprise party, we'd have to be extra sneaky. Maybe we'll do something for their 41st, they'd never suspect that!

Before I forget, Mom & Dad, CONGRATULATIONS and I love you!

Today is also my sister Anne's anniversary. She and Erik were married 6 years ago. I'm sure that they will be celebrating a little bit as well. I know they are just returning from a mini vacation of their own, so perhaps they are partied out. I know my niece Isabel can't read yet since she's only 2, but make sure you wake daddy early!

The 65th Anniversary

Good friends of ours, Austin and Margaret Baxter are celebrating their 65th Anniversary today! HOLY COW! I told Nekole the other day, that's only 54 more years for us and then we can have that party. She just laughed. I know the Baxter family through my work with the Knights of Columbus. Austin is Past State Deputy for the state of Wisconsin and Former Master of the Western District of Wisconsin. What fun people. Austin's son, John Baxter (an attorney in town) will be ordained a deacon next month, so we're all looking forward to that as well. John and his family are also just as amazing. I'm glad that Nekole and I have gotten to know the Baxter family.

My Day

So back to the day. It's my day and I am supposed to decide what I want to do today. Actually, so far I'm doing it; sitting quietly, finishing my coffee and reflecting. I should go outside and continue to work on my retaining wall project or organize the office, or clean the house, but that stuff can wait for another day.

I know that I'll go to Austin and Margaret's reception this morning. I think I might go and pay my folks a visit today. Perhaps I'll take up my smoker and make supper for my folks. I was planning on smoking a chicken and a pork roast anyway, so why not celebrate that with my family.

Well I think I've just decided what to do today.

Hey, Michaeleen (our two-year-old) just wandered downstairs looking for some nourishment.

Daddy, I want a pop-tart.

Looks like my day is in motion now, but instead of a pop-tart, perhaps eggs and toast would be better start for the day.

Peace and Happy Father's Day!
