Looking better

I've been working with the good folks at Oracle global support and things are looking up! I just received a new fix to apply that should take care of things. I'll take a shot at it on Monday and see what we get.

Major problems with applying bundles

I am working through applying the bundles and hit an error with one of the scripts. It looks like the bundle is expecting us to be on a different PTools release. This could get ugly.....

Right now the bundles are on hold until I get resolved with Oracle. I have submitted a case, but have yet to hear from them.

CS 9.0 status update / bundle 18

The CS9.0 upgrade is coming along nicely, although the process is much longer than originally expected. So far, we have recreated a blank "demo" instance of our 8.9 system and a new 9.0 demo instance. We use both of those databases as part of the upgrade of the production system.
I hope to have the 9.0 PeopleBooks installed by the end of this week and have a copy of the 9.0 demo instance available for end-users by the end of next week. The process for updating our production system will take another 5-6 weeks. We will hopefully have a test instance available at the end of February/beginning of March.

Bundle 18 was delayed by PeopleSoft, so I wasn't able to get it staged last week. It was available yesterday (Monday) and I began staging it today. It has 13 steps for the update, so I am expecting it to take a day or two to apply. Expect to see an instance available by the end of this week. We will need to test this quickly since it is scheduled to be moved to production on February 1st. I'll let everyone know when its ready to go.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Bundle 18 delayed

Oracle delayed the release of bundle 18. It is needed for production on Feb 1st, so it could be an interesting situation....

I'll try and keep everyone posted as I know more.

Demo instances done!

We finally have our two demo instances patched and ready to roll on Monday. We will begin our initial pass and hope to have our first test move to production ready for end-user testing in the next 6 weeks.

Its been a lot of work. Chris and I have been working 50 hours a week and we are tired, but its been worth it!

Making progress

We had our consultant start this week and we began our 9.0 upgrade. My brain hurts. We covered a lot of new material in a short amount of time. I easily learned more in three days than I have in any week long classes I've been to.

So far we have our 9 database up and running on the new Oracle server, our web and app servers installed and our demo instance installing. If things go as they sh0uld, we should have our demo up and running either Monday or Tuesday. Then the fun of the upgrade process can begin :)

New Oracle Server

I finally have the new Oracle server up and running. I did a test import and am floored by how fast it is. A process that took over 9 hours on my test server was completed in just over 2 hours on the new box!

I am also very impressed with the new web-based enterprise manager. Its very slick and super easy to use. I didn't know what I was missing!
