Continuing Students

Teresa Kirkeng-Kincaid Scholarship

John Kincaid established this scholarship fund to honor the memory of his wife Teresa, UW- Platteville Class of 1980. Teresa was a licensed professional engineer in the State of Wisconsin who held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from UW-Platteville and a Master of Science Degree in Water Resources Management from the University of Wisconsin. She was one of those individuals more concerned with making a difference than making a fortune. Teresa joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Civil Engineer with the Rock Island District in 1981, and continued with the Corps for 26 years. In that time, she served in many roles, including Assistant Chief of the Planning, Program and Project Management Division. As a loving mother and devoted wife, she serves as an example, reminding us to seek excellence, believe in the goodness of people, commit to quality, develop our youth, strive to enhance teamwork, nurture relationships, maintain a positive attitude, and be involved in life and in work. Criteria include: a continuing female student from Wisconsin with at least a sophomore standing and a declared major in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering; Preference shall be given to students involved in the UWP chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Society of Women Engineers (SWE); a GPA above 2.8; actively involved in other campus organizations and perform community service: and the applicant must file a FAFSA. Please go to the UW-Platteville Scholarship web page for more information.

Mary Robinson Wagner Scholarship

Mary's parents, Florence and Josh Robinson, established this scholarship in honor of their daughter Mary Robinson Wagner. When Mary Robinson Wagner came to UW-Platteville in 1974 as a student, she was considering a career as a doctor. Her father suggested that rather than majoring in a degree primarily meant to bridge to the post graduate work, that she pursue a degree in engineering, as it would include the necessary coursework should she want to continue in medicine, but it could also provide a wonderful career in itself. When she entered the College of Engineering, she was truly a "pioneer" as she was one of only 7 women in a school of approximately 500 men. Mary Robinson Wagner taught at UWP from 1985 - 1989, first in General Engineering and later in Environmental Engineering, and also worked as a hazardous materials manager for the University when the position was first established. A continuing student in engineering will be awarded this scholarship annually. Please go to the UW-Platteville Scholarship web page for more information.

Lisa Karberg-Machotka Memorial Scholarship

Lisa Lyn Karberg-Machotka was born on May 3, 1971, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, and spent her entire life in the area. She loved her home and her life in this area, and only the determination to achieve a degree in Civil Engineering drew her away to Platteville. At the University of Wisconsin- Platteville, Lisa not only excelled in her Civil Engineering curriculum, but she also was a four-year letter winner in volleyball and a two-year letter winner in softball. Lisa was most determined in everything she did, combining diligence, hard work and practice, and desire. She accomplished all of her goals in a consistent and methodical fashion, making her the model for classmates and teammates in all endeavors. Lisa met her future husband, Scott Machotka, in her hometown of Port Edwards, and they were married on July 30, 1994. Lisa received her degree in Civil Engineering from UW-Platteville in 1993, and she became a Civil Engineer for the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company. In loving honor of the wonderful life that Lisa Karberg-Machotka lived and the inspiration she was to so many, her family, friends, and company hereby establish the Lisa Karberg-Machotka Memorial Scholarship in Civil Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. A deserving continuing student will be chosen annually to receive this scholarship. Please go to the UW-Platteville Scholarship web page for more information.
