Program

This program is designed to introduce girls ages 13-17 to the engineering design process and careers in engineering. The full weekend events will be held at the UW-Platteville Pioneer Farm with girls staying in the Cooper Living and Learning Center. The main focus of the weekend will be creating a balsa wood tower to test on an earthquake simulator. Girls will work in teams on this project. The weekend will also include presentations from professional engineers and engineering societies on campus and some other engineering activities. Girls will create a presentation about their tower with their group to be given on the single day in December.

Who

The program is intended for young women in ages 13-17 who express an interest in learning more about pursuing an engineering degree. Registration will be limited to 36 girls for each session. Priority registration will be given to girls living in the Green Hills Council. Other registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registrations and fees are returned if the enrollment limit has been exceeded. Confirmation letters will be sent to participants along with forms and information.

Cost

The cost for this event is $40 per girl and includes housing, food, t-shirt, tote bag, patch, and all project supplies. Scholarships are available by contacting the director.

Registration

A registration form for the event can be found in the link on the left side of the page. Please print the form and fill it out. Send completed form and payment to the address found below. Girls DO NOT have to be a registered Girl Scout to participate in this event. However, girls within the Green Hills Council will have priority registration until September 15, 2007. Counties in the Green Hills Council include Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Lee, Whiteside, and Carroll in Illinois and Grant and Lafayette in Wisconsin. Registrations from girls not in the Green Hills Council will begin to be accepted after September 15, 2007. All registrations are due by October 5, 2007. Girls who participate but are not registered Girl Scouts will need to fill out a Girl Scout registration form. The cost of their membership will be covered by the Green Hills Girl Scout Council. Girls are welcome to use this Girl Scout membership for the entire year, but they are not required to do so.
