Currently the Web Team has developed two templates which are approved for general use by any department or student, Classic and Default. Templated pages may be converted to one of the other styles by editing the "template" variable in the Template Data section of the code. Below are the templates which we have currently published, including a few custom templates.
The Web Development Office has spent time developing a UWP Template that will assist departments in the building of their web pages. All that users need to know is the content for the web page. The template will take care of the rest of the information, and display it in a format that promotes consistency between web pages.
The UWP Web Template was designed to both make the creation and maintenance of web pages very simple, while maintaining a common theme across all university web pages. The look and feel is meant to be simplistic with simple consistant navigation for the users. Consistency through the pages will make it easier for users to locate any information on all UWP web pages.
The templates are established where most of the coding is done through a script that is sitting on the server. All images are also sitting on the server in a shared file with a total image size of 15.0 k. Once you visit a page that uses the template, if you go to any other page that uses the template, then all of the graphics are already cached! The only exception would be if a department wanted to add additional pictures in the content area of their web page.
Get the UWP Template Code. Since the code is being updated periodically (as requirements change from the W3C, State of Wisconsin Government, and US Federal Government), please do not make a copy of the javascript that generates the code. As requirements change, the UWP Web Development Office will update the template which automatically updates all of the pages using the template.
The biggest advantage is that departments are self serving. The departments are the experts on their information. Now all they have to do is enter that information into the template and the scripts will do the rest. The advantages of the script is that if UWP wants to update their web site, we can (at the same time) update all departments who are using the script, and the departments don't have to change ANY of their coding. The entire University will be updated in look and feel at the same time. If UWP changes the image requirements, logos, slogons, or want to include links to all web pages, we can update All Department and University web sites at the same time. This benefit is enormous and will make consistency even greater.
