Campus Police at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville consists of 6 full time officers supplemented by part time personnel, and is a state certified police agency. Personnel are sworn police officers and meet the training standard guidelines set by the Training and Standards Bureau for the State of Wisconsin. Prior to hiring, officers must complete 400 hours of certified training at one of many training sites in Wisconsin. In addition to the 400 hours of preliminary training, each officer annually receives a minimum of 24 hours of in-service development. Officers are deputized by the Grant County Sheriff, allowing for each officer to fully perform his/her duties within the comprehensive university community. While off-campus housing facilities (owned by student organizations recognized by the university) are patrolled by local police authorities, and violations of the law in those areas are investigated by the local authorities, campus police work very closely with all state and local authorities. As such, Campus Police may be called upon to assist with incidents which occur off-campus.

UWP officers conduct foot, bike and vehicular patrols of the campus and residence hall areas 24 hours a day. Campus police enforce all state regulations and laws, including UWS Chapter 18. Campus police is the organization to whom students and employees should report criminal offenses. Potential criminal actions and other emergencies on campus can be reported directly by any student, faculty member, or employee to Campus Police by calling 911 (residence halls and off-campus), 9-911 (administrative offices) or 342-1584, or in person during business hours 7:45 am-4:45 pm, Monday - Friday at 106 Royce Hall. Upon receipt of a call, campus police respond immediately to the site of the complaint and have authority to make arrests if necessary. A case report is prepared and filed at the Campus Police office. If the situation dictates, reports may be forwarded to other University offices for appropriate disposition (i.e., Assistant Chancellor for Student Affairs Office or Department of Student Housing).
