The Grant County Victim/Witness Assistance Program is a source of information and support for victims and witnesses of crime. The program is sensitive to many and varied needs of victims and their families. The Victim/Witness Coordinator acts as a mediator and advocate for the victims in the justice system.

Rights of Victims & Witnesses of a Crime
You have the right:
  • to know the final outcome of your case.
  • to be notified if a court proceedings will not go as scheduled
  • to be informed of financial assistance, and to any Human Services available
  • to be paid a witness fee.
  • to have property returned speedily, whenever possible.
  • to attend any or all court appearances and to a secure waiting area during court proceeding.
  • to be heard at the time of sentencing.
  • to a speedy disposition of your case.
  • and families of homicide victims have all rights offered to victims.
Services Offered to Victims & Witnesses
  • Notify victims or witnesses when a criminal charge is decided and filed.
  • Information on criminal procedures and the progress of the case through the court system.
  • Advise victims or witnesses of the next court appearance.
  • Provide support and escort services for victims or witnesses of a crime to and in court.
  • Refer victims and their families to community agencies for additional services.
  • Refer and assist victims to the information for Crime Victim Compensation Program.
  • Assist in submitting requests to the Court for victims to recover losses.
  • Advise victims or witnesses when court hearings are canceled or postponed.
  • Notify victims of sentencing.
