2011 Christmas Telethon
in Support of Wisconsin Badger Camp
How it all began...
In 1973, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville presented the first TV-5 Christmas Telethon. What started as a 30 hour live telethon has become a ten hour extravoganza. The Telethon is a live, 10-hour production originating from the campus. In cooperation with Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, the Christmas Telethon is currently seen in 12 communities. The efforts of the Telethon benefit Wisconsin Badger Camp, a local nonprofit camp that serves individuals with developmental disabilities. Last year, the Telethon raised in excess of $67,000, providing 134 full camperships to Badger Camp.
The event has become a community tradition in southwest Wisconsin. Over 200 businesses donate auction items or food for the production. Civic organizations such as the Jaycees, Elks club, and Rotary club donate time and monies to this event. The Telethon would not be possible without the efforts of students, faculty, staff, community members, and volunteers working together toward a common goal.
