South Central University for Nationalities (SCUN) offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide variety of disciplines and boasts 24 institutes for research of ethnology, higher education for ethnic minorities, ethnic minority cultures, Women's Language, plasma physics and biomedical engineering. SCUN offers an ideal academic and cultural setting for US students to study about and amongst ethnic minority students in China with 48 ethnic minority groups represented in its student population.
The On-Site Program Coordinator for the Ethnic Minority Cultures Program arranges academic excursions, teaches a Cross-Cultural Understanding course, and provides general support to participants. All students will take the following courses: Ethnic Minority Cultures of China (4 credits), Contemporary China (3 credits), Chinese History and Culture (3 credits), Practical Chinese (4 credits), and Cross-Cultural Understanding (1 credit). All coursework will be conducted in English by SCUN faculty with the exception of the Cross-Cultural Understanding course. Students will also be assigned local students as language partners to assist them in their language learning.
