College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science EXPO
UW-Platteville to host annual Engineering, Mathematics and Science Expo
The annual University of Wisconsin-Platteville Engineering, Mathematics and Science (EMS) Expo will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Engineering Hall and Ottensman Hall. Everyone is invited to attend this free event.
New this year is a registration process with a simple form found at www.uwplatt.edu/expo.
Each year at the Expo, departments, programs, students and organizations throughout the College of EMS present demonstrations and displays to highlight engineering, mathematics and science. Last year's Expo featured exhibits such as robots, electric cars, a solar car and student-developed computer games. Titles from previous year’s exhibits have included Big Bang, demos from a 3-D Printer, Messy Card Mayhem, Altitude Challenge, Tesla Roadster, and Bristle Bot Workshop. Attendees are invited to prepare their own engineering marvels including: Balsa wood bridges, Pioneer 600 car, and Rube Goldberg Contraption — details on these items are found on the website.
Several EMS student organizations, including Platteville FIRST Robotics and the American Society of Civil Engineers, were involved with the contests, demonstrations and exhibits. Similar events are planned for this year. A few of the contests may require registration and a minimal entry fee. See the K-12 teachers', students' and parents' page on the Expo webpage at www.uwplatt.edu/expo for details.
