9th Annual UW System Symposium
for Undergraduate
Research and Creative Activity
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls hosted the 9th Annual
UW System Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity
on April 25, 2008. Undergraduate students were given the opportunity to present
their scholarly work to a statewide audience. To become presenters, undergraduate
students submitted abstracts to campus representatives. Presenters were selected
based on the quality of their abstracts.
Sixteen
students participated this year. There was one oral presentation given by:
Dennis Haakenson, Jr. (BILSA). There were ten poster presentations and the presenters were:
Tyler Bechel (EMS), Jim Bruhn (BILSA), Katherine Campbell (EMS), Eric Doro (EMS), Dan Hoesly (BILSA), Cayla Lillge (EMS), Lue Lor (BILSA), Anna Markgren (EMS), Tricia Mason (EMS), Andrew Melby (EMS), Paula Olig (BILSA), Thomas Shaof (BILSA), Kyle Vircks (EMS), Ashleigh Waltz (BILSA), and Vang Pao Yang.. Also in attendance
from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville was
Hisham Abdel-Aal, General Engineering Research Advisor, Kathryn Lomax, Director of Sponsored Programs, and David Van Buren,
Associate Vice Chancellor & Dean of Gradate Studies.
The Office of Sponsored Programs would like to thank the above
students and their research advisors for their work and support of undergraduate
research at UWP: Drs. Chanaka Mendis (Chemistry & Engineering Physics),
Charles Cornett (Chemistry & Engineering Physics), Majid Tabrizi (Industrial Studies), Rhea Presiado (Geography/Geology),
and Wayne Weber (Biology).

Retired UW-River Falls art professor, Doug Johnson, at the re-dedication of his 10 ft sculpture that he built in 1968 as a
tribute to honor Dr. Martin Luther King 's mission to racial equality.
